A Communications Revolution

On August 16, 1858, Queen Victoria sent the first transatlantic telegraph message to US President, James Buchanan.

Although it took 16 hours to fully transmit Queen Victoria‘s 98 word message, instant communication across continents had now begun, revolutionizing communication.

Until then the fastest way to communicate between Britain and the US took weeks as letters were carried on board ships.
