My Roof Is Leaking

In the last two days we have been pounded by rain. When the rain let up there was a loud knock on my backdoor.

"Hello Ernie," I said to the little gopher who was standing there. "Can I help you?"

"My roof is leaking," he shouted, as he shook the water off his fur. "You've gotta get out there and fix it so no more water goes in my gopher hole!"

"I'll get right on it," I replied, as I looked for my shovel. "It's about time," he said.

As we walked into my backyard, something occurred to me.

"Hey Ernie," I said. "You don't pay rent. You don't even belong in my backyard."

Never at a loss for words he replied, "Is this how you treat a guest?"

I could see I wasn't going to win this argument, and I know it's never a good idea to argue with anyone as smart as a gopher.

"Okay Ernie," I replied. "I'll fix your roof, but that's it. No more demands!"

"Alright," he answered. "But as long as I'm here, what's for lunch," he asked as he tracked mud across my kitchen floor while walking to my refrigerator.

But what could I say, after all he is a guest.

  2. Gopher is an interesting guest to have at home. I have learnt at school that there are several types of gophers. I, however, have a pet dog yet the stories are similar. As guests or pets, they can be quite demanding on their requirements. But hey, pets are man's best friends and make a world of difference in our lives, right?
