A Hummingbird Told Me

This Spring, I've been watching a very happy hummingbird family in a nest just outside my kitchen window, and I asked the father hummingbird what makes them so happy together.

"My life is brief," he told me as he landed on my little red rose bush. "But so is all life. Tell those you love that you love them and tell them often, starting right now."

"You mean just say it," I asked. "Shouldn't it wait for a special occasion?"

"It is special on any occasion," he replied. "What are you waiting for? Tell them now while you have the chance."

Just then, his lovely lady and their two babies joined us, flittering with fun in the soft breeze.

"I must leave you now" he said. "But don't forget what I told you today. It will make a big difference in how happy a life you and those you love, live."

"I won't forget," I said with a smile. "And I will tell others what you told me so that we can spread life's happiness in words of love everyone hopes to hear."
