In The Light Of An Angel

"I'm lost," said Jacob. "What am I going to do?"

It was 3 am and Jacob hadn't been able to sleep. That afternoon, he had broken the news to Molly that after 23 years with his employer, he'd been laid off.

Jacob was 52 years old, a time in life when employers can often hire young people for far less money, and Jacob knew in competition with young people, his job prospects were bleak.

Jacob had been laid off along with 11 other employees because their employer had shifted their jobs to China to save money,.

He and the other laid off employees were declared "surplus" and given severance checks and short-term medical insurance coverage.

When the layoff took place, Jacob and Molly had been married for 26 years, and their son and daughter were both in college, a very costly investment for Jacob.

After having been a stay at home mom for 15 years, Molly had been attending community college to bring her skill set up to date and to take an art class, something she had always wanted to do.

Between house payments, car payments, insurance costs, medical expenses and college tuition, Jacob and Molly were like most families, they had little savings.

That night, feeling his heart pounding under the stress, Jacob quietly got out of bed and walked into the kitchen and sat down at the dinner table to try to calm himself,

But as he sat in the dark, tears began running down his cheeks. What were he and Molly going to do? Would they lose their home? How would they pay their bills? Could they keep their kids in college?

Just then, the dark kitchen began to glow in a soft white light.

Jacob looked up and next to him was an Angel, with long black hair and wearing a flowing white robe.

She quietly looked at him and said, "Don't worry Jacob, everything will be fine. You are safe and loved. God knows what you face and He will help you."

"But I don't believe in God," Jacob replied.

"You don't believe in Angels either," the angelic being answered. "Yet here I am."

Jacob reached his hand out to touch the Angel, but his hand passed right through her. She just smiled and said, "God loves you unconditionally, and so do we angelic beings.

"Here is what is going to happen.

"At 9 am tomorrow morning you are to meet with a Mr. Applebee at the old abandoned warehouse on Mill Street," the Angel continued. "There he will lease that facility to you for free with the understanding that you will clean it up.

"Later, when you are successful, you will pay market rent but not until you are successful."

"Successful at what," asked Jacob.

"You are about to go into the high tech recycling and refurbishment business," she answered.

"There is a huge global need to recycle all these used computers and cell phones and other electronics, and to sell cheaply what is salvageable to people who can't afford the new products.

"Your employer trained you and the other 11 laid off employees with the skills you'll need, but that employer foolishly didn't see the value of what you learned while manufacturing products.

"We angelic beings want you to contact the other 11 employees, who are all equally as despondent as you, and invite them to join you. They don't know it yet, but each one will gratefully take you up on your offer.

"You will then promote your business online. We've already designed your software for you and the search engines will find your ads and display them..

"I promise you, you will soon have all the business you can handle and plenty of cash coming in to pay yourselves.

"No longer will your future be dim, for you will begin building entrepreneurial success and the 12 of you will be hiring more employees, as you serve the world in a valuable way.

The next morning, Jacob met with Mr. Applebee, a cordial man with gray hair, wearing a dark blue suit and a blue tie.

Mr. Applebee not only provided the warehouse, he included telephones, computers, cell phones and furniture with the free lease.

Later that day, Jacob met with the other 11 laid off employees, all of whom agreed to join this new firm. Soon Jacob and the other formerly "surplus" employees began building what would become a global company.

"I don't know how this happened," Jacob later told Molly. "Except to say there are powers in the universe far beyond what we can imagine. But that is no surprise for the universe is vast and much of life is a mystery.

"When we open our hearts, anything is possible."

This story was in part inspired by an email message I received from my friend Mary Ellen, publisher of AngelScribe, who told me of an Angel who appeared before her and assured her that her health would be restored, and soon it was, from a remarkable series of events that followed.
