The Cycles Of Life

As Mira laid in her hospital bed, her doctor told her she was at life's end. Instead of being upset, she smiled and requested a bowl of ripe red strawberries, some whipped cream and two forks.

Earlier that day, her family and friends had visited her and spoke of all the good times they had shared with her. Now with her diagnosis, Mira was at peace with herself.

She had done everything in life that was most important to her. In each life there are bad times but now the good times quickly swept them from her thoughts.

Looking around the room, she saw photos of family and friends, and those photos warmed her heart.

Mira also had photos of herself, at a young age, at middle-age and most recently as she is now with gray hair, thick glasses and lines across her face.

Turning her head, Mira looked through her window at the pink roses blooming in the bright sunlight, and it made her smile.

When the strawberries and whipped cream arrived, she asked her caregiver to take a seat next to the bed, and handed her a fork. "Won't you join me," she said with a twinkle in her eyes.

As the two ladies shared those strawberries, her caregiver took her hand and asked, "Aren't you afraid of dying?"

"No," Mira replied. "It's my time."

Adding with a reassuring smile, "Death is the most natural thing in the world. We all pass."

The room fell silent.

Soon a wistful look came over Mira's face as she stared at something beyond her caregiver, something her caregiver could not see.

"I'm ready now," Mira said softly, as she closed her eyes, and in that moment she passed. There was no pain, no tears, just the gentle passing of her soul, like so many souls before her.
