A Day That Changed The World

On July 23, 1962, using the Telstar Satellite, the first Transatlantic Satellite TV Transmission took place connecting North America with Europe.

As over 100-million people witnessed this major scientific breakthrough, for the first time in history, live satellite transmission was broadcast, and it would soon include every continent on earth.

Instantaneously, the world could now see and hear events from everywhere.

As a result, on that day, there was another revolutionary change. Reported exclusively in this fable, here is what happened next:

Advertisers lined up.

Just one day later this first Transatlantic Satellite TV Transmission broadcast Budweiser and Fritos commercials. A day after that came McDonald's, KFC fried chicken, Coca-Cola and Marlboro cigarette ads.

To no one’s surprise, one week after that came the first Transatlantic Satellite TV Transmissions of Alka-Seltzer and Pepto-Bismol commercials.

Not to be outdone, car makers and giant retailers joined in. And if buyers could not afford their products, no problem, buy it on credit. This led to the widespread use of credit, and of credit cards.

And thanks to this new TV technology we soon adapted to the eating habits people enjoy today. And to a world deeply in debt.

Of course to solve these problems, the drug makers began heavily advertising valium and other drugs to treat anxiety, and diet pills, as well as a vast array of other drugs, as they do today.

So, July 23, 1962 is a day that will live in history.

And like most important historical dates, it will fondly be remembered through endless TV mattress sales advertising.
