The tiny, adorable Puerto Vallarta Mexican mud turtle, about the size of a thumb, was on the brink of extinction until scientists recently began to save it.
An international non-profit headed by Austrian scientist Peter Praschag along with the University of Guadalajara, created Turtle Island, a conservation, breeding and research center, where the tiny turtles are safe and happy. Thumb nail size, the first babies are already hatched and thriving.
In a statement, Dr. Praschag stated, “Despite facing numerous challenges in their natural habitat, they have shown the ability to overcome adversity and thrive in a protected environment.”
Immediately after that statement, numerous endangered immigrants throughout the world demanded the same protection.
As for the tiny turtles, a complication has arisen. They have gotten organized and are demanding Spa privileges at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta.
